It is with great regret that I must make this announcement. Robert Jordan passed away this afternoon at 2:45pm. My deepest condolences go out to his family. The news was announced on the author's blog earlier today.
I can't really say more at the moment, for I can't really put into words what this means to me as a fantasy reader and a big fan of the Wheel of Time.
I know that fate works in mysterious ways. . . It happened to Frank Herbert, and now Robert Jordan has been robbed of his chance to complete what should be one of the definitive works of fantasy of the 21st century.
May he rest in peace.
All I can say is, "Thanks for the memories, for which I'll be eternally grateful."

Sad to see him go. He fought long and hard against his illness. I couldn't get through his later books unfortunately, they just got too muddled and went nowhere but I always looked forward to finding out how it would all end.
I'm still shocked. RIP, Robert.
Robert, you are my fantasy author.

Wow, this is shocking. I just started reading KNIFE OF DREAMS last night. Very sad.

It's sad to see RJ go. I started reading WOT when I was in middle school and I will miss it.
It's a testament to his fortitude that he held on as long as he did. My condolences to his family and friends.

I just read about Jordan in MySpace. How very sad. Wherever he travels there will be some very happy people reading really good sci-fi.
The passing of a great talent with a powerful vision. The first few WoT books are as good as any fantasy novels ever writen.
It would seem that book 12 will still be published.

After reading about the efforts he went to: recording tapes of plot outlines, etc I admire, and miss him even more.

I'm in shock - What a loss.
I recall meeting Mr. Jordan at the old Chapter Two bookstore in Charleston, SC (down on East Bay Street, for those of you that have been down to the Lowcountry); he was as nice a man as you'll ever meet. He would share kind words with each and every person who proffered their books for his signature. I still chuckle when I think of my wife (then a Physics undergrad at College of Charleston) and Mr. Jordan joking about a real life use for Schrodinger's Cat explanations. I wish him a safe journey onward into the next life.
I admit, I cried. Mostly because, how awful not to get to finish your life's work. Those books defined fantasy for me in my middle and high school years. I hope the last book can be finished from his notes and be all he would have wanted it to be.

He gets my vote for undisputed king of fantasy and imo is the heir to tolkeins legacy.
I'm also mad about people who make the wot jokes about it not finished before he died, hope your all pleased with that

Man, he lived a hell of a life. Even if a person doesn't live a hell of a life, life itself is just so fucking amazing no matter what you do. Jordan lived an amazing life and I can't even envisage the amazing places he went to in his imagination.
It is a horrible shock, but I am happy for him, that his fight against his illness is over. He won as far as I'm concerned.
I don't believe in living or dying. The definition of that shit comes from a simplistic human point of view. The way time moves for us. In his moments Jordan will always be alive. I could go who knows how many lightyears away, look back at the Earth, and I can still see him there.
I'm sure he had enough notes and drafts to finish the Wheel of Time. The fact that he passed away before finishing it will only create more of a legend. Like his books say, ages come and pass, the wheel turns, legends fade to myth. This is my shoutout to Robert Jordan. Rest in peace, big guy.
